Colin Herriot Makes Blues History As Clubs First Head Coach

Annapolis Blues FC are excited to announce Maryland United’s Director of Coaching Colin Herriot will be the clubs first head coach and lead the Annapolis Blues team for the Inaugural NPSL Season.

Annapolis Blues Owner & Managing Partner Hitch shared his thoughts on Colin leading the Blues, “Our commitment to Annapolis is to put the best team on the field to rep Naptown in the NPSL which meant we needed to find the right Head Coach.  We interviewed great candidates from all over the region who had interest in coaching the Annapolis Blues. Fortunately, the right man for the job was local and leading one of the area’s top soccer clubs, Maryland United. Colin knows the community, has a great coaching pedigree, a strong tactician, motivational manager and knows the best players from around the area. The NPSL is a league of opportunity for executives, players and coaches. Looking forward to working with Colin and seeing him make the most of this opportunity, on and off the field.”

Colin Herriot has been Director of Coaching and ECNL Staff Coach for Maryland United since 2013. He has a great track record for identifying and developing top players. Colin has coached Maryland Olympic Development Program teams and has served as a US Soccer Talent ID Staff Coach.  Before joining Maryland United, Colin was Director of Coaching for Waldorf Soccer Club. He’s also coached at the College of Southern Maryland as an Assistant Coach.

Colin added his thoughts when asked about leading the Blues in 2023, "I'm delighted to be joining the Annapolis Blues as the Head Coach for their inaugural season. It is an exciting time for soccer in our community and this is a club looking to make a real impact, on and off the field. I’ve had great discussions with the owner and general manager and I know their progressive vision aligns with mine. It’s now our responsibility to give the fans a team of real quality and a group of players that they can be proud of. I’m now focused on assembling a winning team that entertains everyone connected to our club. I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead”

Colin’s knowledge and passion for the game started as a successful player in Scotland where he played for Heart of Midlothian Academy, second division clubs East Fife FC and Cowdenbeath FC while also playing for Scotland’s Boys Club National Team at the U16 level.

Annapolis Blues General Manager Fred Matthes added, "After meeting with Colin and several other very qualified finalists for the position, we were incredibly impressed with his training acumen, his technical knowledge, and his extensive circle of relationships with top level coaches and players throughout the region." Matthes continued, "We feel that Colin will take on this role with the enthusiasm to succeed in all aspects of the job, just as he has done throughout his career. Colin is going to be a fantastic part of our Inaugural Season with his leadership on the pitch, and we look forward to working with him all along the way with his new Club, Annapolis Blues FC !"
