Minor League Soccer is coming to Annapolis in 2023!
Annapolis, Maryland - A dynamic ownership group made up of former Major League Soccer General Manager, experienced Sports Team Owners, Former Major League Soccer players from Maryland and local business leaders are excited to announce that a National Premier Soccer League team is coming to Naptown to begin play in May 2023.
Owner & Managing Partner Michael (Hitch) Hitchcock who is a 12+ year MLS veteran and owner of multiple successful Minor League Soccer teams, shared “We’re excited to bring Minor League Soccer to Annapolis in a meaningful way. We want to provide opportunities for local players to pursue their dreams of playing soccer at the highest level while developing the next generation of Sports Management executives and providing an affordable, fun game day experience for area sports fans and soccer supporters in Annapolis. But first, we need a team name. This is the community's team and we’re going to ask the city of Annapolis to select the name, logo and brand of your home town soccer club. This is going to be fun!” As part of the clubs’ launch, Annapolis Soccer Group is running “Naptown, name your soccer club!” campaign where the community can vote at www.annapolissoccer.com for their favorite name, logo and brand from four professionally designed brands. All Fans who vote by July 25th, 2022 will be entered into a Season Seat lottery: 11 Lucky Fans will be drawn to win a FREE Season Seat for the 2023 Inaugural NPSL Season while one Super Lucky Fan will win a FREE Season Seats for Life.
The Ownership Group bringing the World’s game to Annapolis includes two former Major League Soccer players from the Annapolis area; Alex Yi and Kyle Beckerman. Alex shared his thoughts about joining Annapolis Soccer Group, “First, I would like to express my gratitude to Michael Hitchcock and his team for believing in our town of Annapolis. Having grown up in Easton, Maryland, this is really special for me and my family as we have deep roots in the community. We can’t wait to come out and support our team next summer!” Former US National Team & MLS star Kyle Beckerman who is from Crofton, Maryland added, “I’m excited to be part of this ownership group to bring a soccer club to Annapolis, a place so close to where I grew up. I'm sure it will be another great team that Maryland fans will be able to get behind and enjoy, and I know it will be a team that inspires the next generation of local kids who have dreams to play soccer at the highest levels.”
The National Premier Soccer League has over 90 teams all over the country. Considered the 4th Division in the US Soccer Pro-Am System, NPSL provides opportunities for clubs to grow the game of soccer in their respective community in a sustainable way while providing a platform for players to develop in pursuit of their professional soccer dreams. In the last 12 months, over 30 NPSL players have been drafted or signed by Major League Soccer teams while many others have moved up to play professionally in the US and internationally. Some of the top lower Division clubs in US soccer history, Detroit City and Chattanooga FC, grew their Clubs in the NPSL and now play at higher level professional divisions. Past NPSL National Champions include defending National Champion Denton Diablos (Denton, Texas), New York Cosmos, Miami FC and New York Red Bulls Reserves.
