On Saturday, June 29, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Annapolis Blues defeated Virginia Beach City FC in yet another dominant win, finishing 5-1 to the Blues.

Mikey Revell picked up where he left off last match, opening the scoring for the Blues early on. Alex Abril was on the receiving end of a lifted through ball on the left side of the box. Settling the pass and taking a touch, Abril slotted a cross that found the feet of Revell for a simple tap in finish from inside the six-yard box.

Going from assist man to goal scorer, Abril put the Blues up 2-0. Making a darting run down the field, Abril made his way into the box after beating the Virginia Beach defense. Keeping his composure in the one-on-one situation, Abril slotted home his finish in the bottom left corner. Virginia Beach managed to pull one back before the half, going into the break with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Blues.

The second half would see both an attacking clinic and strong defensive performance by the Blues. Luke Dunne netted yet another goal on the season to put the Blues up 3-1. Dunne found the ball at his feet following a nice mix of midfield passes by the Blues. From roughly 25 yards out, Dunne took his chances and released a rocket that kissed the post and found the top left corner of the net, leaving the VBCFC keeper with no chance.

Abril secured his brace in the latter stages of the second half. After making another run into the box, the pacy Abril found himself in front of two defenders. Taking them on at pace, Abril cut in and out, leaving the defenders in the dust. From 12 yards out, Abril’s laser of a shot found the bottom right corner of the net.

To finish off the scoring, Virginia Beach found the back if its own net, scoring an own goal. In classic Blue’s attacking fashion, Miles Avery drove down the right wing towards the endline inside the box. Avery then played a ball across the face of the net, trying to find Abril. The defender attempted to clear the ball, but tapped it into his own net from a few yards out.

The Blues take on Grove Soccer United to close out the regular season on July 6, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corp Memorial stadium. NPSL playoff schedules will be released following the conclusion of all regular season matches.
